Why is the exact placing paid?
The government never publishes a school's rank or position - so your precise placing (“Top 3% in England”, “1st of 12 in your town”) is something we work out, and it is part of the activated pack. We have invested in building the platform, researching and building the algorithms that compare schools fairly in context, and in supporting the schools that use us. We charge a small fee to help cover these costs.
What do “schools similar to ours” and “schools just like ours” mean?
Both read your results against schools facing similar circumstances - using an advanced measure of the community a school serves (size, disadvantage, SEND and EAL), not just free school meals. They work two ways. “Similar to ours” groups every school into a similar-context band and compares within it - a broad, fair comparison. “Just like ours” is more precise: it finds the specific handful of schools most like yours - your closest matches on those measures, anywhere in England - and ranks you among them. So a strong result in a tough setting is seen fairly.
